GARDEN ROUTE NEWS NEWS - Oakhill School’s Kids’ Lit Quiz team attended the event's National Finals at Roedean School in Johannesburg on Saturday, 23 February.
The dynamic team of Mia Guccio, Victoria Still, Jemima Wilcox-Jones and Liam Nelson came second (by only one point) to St John's, putting Knysna on the map as a literary force to be reckoned with! Oakhill advanced through to this final after hosting the annual Kids’ Lit Quiz on 18 February, for the 8th consecutive year.
A total of six other schools from George to Plettenberg Bay joined Oakhill for the regional round, with a combined total of 11 teams.
The Kids' Lit Quiz is an international competition that was developed by New Zealander, Wayne Mills, who reads all current children’s books and creates the quiz himself. Wayne is a wealth of knowledge, and teachers and parents scribble down notes of recommended books as he exclaims, ’Another one to read before Easter!’ Wayne travels around the world, quizzing school children and spreading excitement and the love of literature everywhere he goes.
The South African leg of the Kids' Lit Quiz takes place every year in February and all English schools in this area are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to attend the regional competition at Oakhill School in Knysna.
As a small region, the Garden Route is very privileged to be included among the big cities of South Africa. Sincere congratulate to the winners, St John's, who will travel to Singapore for the Kids' Lit Quiz World Finals in July.
