PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay sea rescue volunteers go above and beyond the call of duty to assist locals and visitors in need.
This was proven over the past weekend when the local National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) duty crew helped two injured cyclists.
Local station commander Marc Rodgers said that just after 8:00 on Sunday, 18 February, the NSRI responded to reports of an injured cyclist on the Cairnbrogie mountain bike trail.
“On arrival a 57-year-old man was treated for a fractured wrist and was transported to hospital by ambulance in a stable condition.
"He was expected to undergo surgery for the fracture,” Rodgers said.
An NSRI crew member, who had been out cycling in the Cairnbrogie area, also stopped to assist the man until help arrived.
She was however later involved in a cycling accident herself.
At about 10:40 the same day the NSRI medical crew was activated again, this time for the Good Samaritan NSRI volunteer.
She had fallen off her bicycle in the town centre.
“We treated her for suspected concussion and she was transported to hospital by ambulance where she was held for observation.”
