KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has acknowledged receiving numerous queries and complaints regarding certain areas in Knysna not being affected during Eskom's load shedding, and stated that this has been brought to the attention of Eskom.
According to the municipality, Knysna has two intake electrical lines, a 66kVA and a 132kVA line. It said the latter supplies the bulk area of Knysna and the 66kVA line services areas such as Brenton, Welbedacht, and Knysna Heights.
The line also provides electricity to the water purification plant.
"During Stages 1 and 2 of load shedding, the 66kVA line remains active to limit disruptions to the plant. Under the heavy strain of Stages 3 and 4, both intake lines are supposed to be switched off. Eskom did not switch off the 66kVA line during Stages 3 and 4 but this will no longer be the case since it has been brought to their attention," the municipality said in a statement.
"Residents must please take note that this will have an impact on the water purification plant since no water can be pumped into the reservoirs until the system is rebooted. It will also have an impact on human and financial resources because the water system will have to be rebooted manually. We ask all residents and businesses to conserve water during all blackouts."
