KNYSNA NEWS - Last week the Knysna-Plett Herald informed its readers that garden waste may be deposited at the Old Place garden waste site free of charge, but it has since come to our notice that the site is closed and not accepting any waste.
This information was received by way of a press release from the municipality shortly before going to print and was published verbatim and in good faith that the information supplied was accurate.
The municipality has been asked to comment on why the release was not accurate but at the time of going to press no response had been received. The paper wishes to apologise for any inconvenience suffered by readers in this regard.
The municipality had also still not responded to queries from the paper as to when facilities will be made available for the disposal of solid waste, which it must provide in terms of both the Constitution and municipal bylaws, and in the light of that whether any mechanism is in place to reimburse those currently having to pay for waste disposal.
The more pressing questions of whether any suitable land has been identified for disposal and if not, why not, had also remained unanswered by the time of going to print.
We will keep our readers updated with any new information that comes to light.
