KNYSNA NEWS - It seems that residents will have to wait a bit longer for the N2 bypass to become a reality.
In a letter early this month from Coastal and Environmental Services (CES) to interested and affected parties, it is stated that matters pertaining to the Environmental Impact Assessment and environmental authorisation are now out of the hands of CES and the South African National Roads Agency.
"The National Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) has not yet issued an environmental authorisation for the proposed N2 Knysna Toll Highway. CES has been in correspondence with the DEA, and they have requested additional information that they believe they require in order to make an informed decision," the letter reads. The CES will discuss the DEA’s specific requirements at a meeting prior to providing responses to the DEA’s comments.
"This process of responding to DEA is likely to take at least six weeks, and therefore we do not anticipate National DEA issuing an environmental authorisation before the end of the year."
