GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A 20-year-old woman was arrested in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, earlier today, Sunday 4 April, after allegedly kidnapping a three-month-old baby from her home in Concordia, Knysna.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said it is believed that the suspect, a friend of the baby’s mother, visited their home on Saturday afternoon. “She took the three-month-old child under false pretences and disappeared,” Spies said.
Following the little girl’s disappearance, a search party was established. “The investigation took the police to Kwanokuthula where the woman and the child were found at a church earlier today," Spies said. "Investigators attached to the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences unit and Knysna detectives arrested the woman on a charge of kidnapping.”
The police opened a case of kidnapping. The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court soon.
