KNYSNA NUUS - FAMSA Men’s Committee is organising an evening for men during the month of June to give recognition and honour to dads in the month during which Father’s Day is celebrated.
"Most programmes nowadays are focusing on women and children, and employment opportunities are more geared for the women. Many men are feeling disempowered and useless," explains FAMSA Men’s project coordinator, Joanne Lewis.
She says the programme’s goal focuses on men to encourage them to play an active role in their families, and to be good fathers to their children.
"We have invited a prominent speaker from Cape Town, Robin Booth, who has a special interest in parenting training." In his address Booth will ask the question: Is your heart in the right place? Any doubts? and will discuss how other men cope with father/ manhood.
Robin Booth is the founder of SynEDgy Schooling Approach and the Synergy School in Cape Town. He is a communication expert in the fields of emotional intelligence and effective parenting techniques.
He is also a national and international conference speaker and his articles have been published both nationally and internationally in diverse magazines. Booth is frequently interviewed on radio and television, discussing the skills for developing emotional intelligence in children.
Lewis continues: "The evening event has been made possible by wonderful people who serve their community by volunteering their time and expertise. Knysna Primary has given us the use of their hall and members of the Men’s Committee are using all their resources to help make this a successful event. Kaz Davids, a local musician, has loaned his sound equipment and will be entertaining the men with his music."
To add some extra excitement the men’s event will include some lucky draws. FAMSA hopes that 150 to 200 men from every community in Knysna and surrounds will attend this unique men-only event on Tuesday, June 21 from 19:00 to 21:00 at Knysna Primary School.
