About a month ago, Wiley received the good news that her eight-year-old tomcat had been voted Whiskas Cat of the Week and will be in line for the cat food company's Cat of the Year award. Two years ago, he also won CXPress’ title of Cat with the Most Beautiful Eyes and Biscuit featured in the 2014 calendar of the Knysna’s Animal Welfare Society (KAWS).
“Biscuit puts a smile on people’s faces. He definitely changed my life - everyone who meets him can’t help but love him,” she said happily at the store on Thursday, November 6. “Customers actually bring along toys and treats for him when they come to fetch their DVDs.” Wiley said that the cat is so loving that when he meets a new person he likes, he flops over there and then and rolls over for a good tummy scratch.
Wiley had always wanted a Siamese cat, so when she saw an advertisement for Devon Rex/ Siamese kittens she immediately responded. Because of its sandy-coloured fur, the seller named him Kalahari, but when Wiley’s mom started calling him Biscuit, the name stuck.
Wiley recalled that they both suffered a great deal when when he disappeared for three months after she had moved homes. Unable to accept her loss, she put up posters and advertised that she was desperately looking for him.
Three months later someone called to say that she’d been hearing a cat miaowing for days on end. Even though the caller had not yet managed to spot the cat, it sounded as if it came from a Siamese cat. Wiley said that Biscuit has a distinctive Siamese call. She decided to not get her hopes up too high, but went looking for the cat that same day.
“It was as if we were in a movie,” Wiley said giggling. As soon as I heard him miaow, I softly called his name, and there he was, skinny as a rake and full of ticks. As if in slow motion we ran to each other and I picked him up and held him tightly." She said after that adventure, the cat never left the house again.

Biscuit was featured in KAWS' 2014 calendar.

Knysna feline Biscuit was recently voted Whiskas Cat of the Week.
