PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Crime fighters in Plettenberg Bay are warning motorists to ensure their vehicles are locked following a theft incident in Rothersands Avenue last week.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said they received a report from a Plett resident last week that items had been stolen from his vehicle in Rothersands Avenue.
"The suspect was clearly seen on CCTV footage opening the vehicle door and taking goods from the vehicle. This baffled the owner as he was very sure that he had locked his vehicle," Olivier said.
In a strange twist the same suspect was spotted in the area on Sunday 27 September. "The owner parked his vehicle on his property and locked the doors."
Warrant Officer Tommy Taylor, who attended the theft incident last week, received a report from a local about a suspicious man hiding in the bushes in Rothersands Avenue.
"Various PBCPA members quickly responded and the suspect was apprehended. It was verified that it was the same person allegedly involved in the previous incident. The suspect was handed over to police," Olivier said.
"Please check that your vehicle is properly locked as criminals are very inventive. Remote blocking is a popular modus operandi to gain access to vehicles." In a separate incident, a local municipal law enforcement officer approached a suspicious-looking man in the vicinity of Milkwood Road on Saturday evening, and the suspect started running away. "The suspect dropped a bag before disappearing into the fynbos in the area," said Olivier.
The officer gave chase and sent out an alert for assistance. Though Smhart and Plett Security responded immediately, the suspect got away. "The unopened bag was handed in with local police. The bag was opened at the charge office and inside were an Apple laptop and three pairs of Adidas takkies."
If anyone had any of these items stolen from them recently, they are encouraged to contact the Plettenberg Bay police.
