KNYSNA NEWS - Homeowners at Knysna Lifestyle Estate are "extremely concerned" that the Knysna Municipality has failed to issue rates accounts to a number of residents since taking transfer of their respective properties over two years ago.
“This is despite every one of the affected residents making contact with the municipality, requesting the account to be issued. These transfers date back to February 2016, which is a ridiculous amount of time to pass with no rates accounts being issued,” states Grant van Staden, who works with the developers of the estate.
A list containing the names of 23 residents has been submitted to the Knysna-Plett Herald.
“This can only be described as gross negligence from the Knysna Municipality's finance department and another example of incompetence,” says Van Staden.
In response to an enquiry, the municipality said that the development of a revenue enhancement strategy and increased debt collection are two major goals of CFO Mbulelo Memani.
“Correcting data, expediting account backlogs and addressing challenges with regards to skilled staff are currently being dealt with. We apologise for the inconvenience this has created and wish to assure clients that once all corrections have been effected, they will be furnished with the correct statements. Accounts have been opened for most of these owners and all the backlogs should be resolved by May.”
