KNYSNA NEWS - The school competition that is part of BioWise's Waste Nothing Knysna programme is in full swing. Of the 15 schools that entered, 12 are still on board.
Recently the various partners of the programme, SANParks, Knysna Municipality and Edge of Africa started off the new term with presentations on how to be more water wise.
After an introduction from a planetary perspective by Sue Swain from BioWise Garden Route, Zovuyo Kolwapi from the environmental department at Knysna Municipality explained where Knysna's water comes from, the process of getting it into taps and what happens to it afterwards.
Thabiso Mokoena from SANParks demonstrated how to complete a water audit for the school, identifying ways in which water can be saved, and Jerome Williams from Edge of Africa showed learners how to make a rain gauge from a plastic bottle.
He also explained how to measure the amount of water they can catch and store in rainwater tanks, using roof measurements.
