KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality and Visit Knysna last week launched Greater Knysna's domestic tourism campaign for the upcoming season, titled "Get That Faraway Feeling". The drive aims to showcase and remind travellers of the depth and breadth of experiences that Greater Knysna has on offer, and that whatever they are looking for in a holiday, they can find it in Knysna.
"That faraway feeling is closer than you think," said Visit Knysna general manager Colleen Durant at the launch on Friday 13 November at Project Bar and Lounge.
The event was attended by town leaders, local media and key influencers in the region, and led by MC Corné Koch, Wesgro's head of the Western Cape Convention Bureau.
"I don't think, out of all the places I've visited, I've seen a town with the type of resilience I see in Knysna," Koch said, referring to Knysna's tourism sector's fight-back from the 2017 fires. "If a town can fight back from something like that, then they can fight back against anything."

The campaign will initially run for a period of four months, and will be digitally led. It follows a re-marketing approach, targeting audiences that have been built online previously for optimisation, and engaging users that have shown interest in the region. Kicking off mid-November, the collateral will be live on Instagram, Facebook and Google, accessible across all devices and built for mobile.

Knysna Mayor Elrick van Aswegen also spoke at the event, and other than echoing Koch's sentiments over the town's fighting spirit, expressed his pride in Knysna's offerings. "Knysna is open and waiting. With adventures to be had throughout the Greater Knysna area, we are proud of the quality and calibre of the offerings available to travellers," he said.
"The municipality stands by our tourism industry and supports them in rebuilding this vital component of our local economy."
Durant also expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming festive season. "We are very excited that through this campaign we can promote the various locations within the Greater Knysna area with each area having unique offerings," she said. "I think this season has the potential to be a very good one, and I am hoping travellers will pick Knysna as their destination of choice."
