GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route has crept into the hearts of tourists from around the world and this became evident when global travel website TripAdvisor announced this year’s top Travellers’ Choice destinations.
Knysna and Plettenberg Bay made it into the top five of best ten destinations in South Africa among visitors for 2015.
For the past seven years TripAdvisor has been recognising the world’s top destinations based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in these destinations.
Although Cape Town took the top spot, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay were up there among the best, ranking second and fourth respectively.
“These world-class destinations chosen by our community are rich in history, culture and beauty and offer endless sights to explore,” said chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor Barbara Messing.
About Knysna, TripAdvisor highlighted the town’s breathtaking sandstone cliffs, tranquil lagoon, beautiful beaches as well as a host of activities for visitors to enjoy, from the country’s largest indigenous forest to its many popular festivals.
Plettenberg Bay’s rich history, which dates back to the Middle Stone Age, pristine beaches and abundant wildlife were among the aspects travellers most enjoyed and led to good reviews.
The coastal holiday town also proved popular among tourists due to its many renowned animal sanctuaries which attract thousands each year.
