PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A 20-year-old woman was arrested in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, on Sunday 4 April, after allegedly kidnapping a three-month-old baby from her home in Concordia, Knysna.
Southern Cape police spokes-person Sergeant Chris Spies said it is believed that the suspect, a friend of the baby's mother, visited their home on Saturday afternoon. "She took the three-month-old child under false pretenses and disappeared," Spies said.
Following the little girl's disappearance a missing adult and child alert was circulated on local crime prevention and traffic groups in an attempt to locate the two.
Spies said police also established a search party. "The investigation took the police to Kwanokuthula where the woman and the child were found at a church earlier today [Sunday]," Spies said.
"Investigators attached to the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences unit and Knysna detectives arrested the woman on a charge of kidnapping."
The police have opened a case of kidnapping. The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court soon.
