GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Cooperation between crime fighters in Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay has led to a burglary suspect meeting his match. Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said three suspects went on a burglary spree in Sedgefield last week.
"Apprehending these criminals was quite challenging as Sedgefield is surrounded by bushy terrain where it is easy for criminals to move and hide," Olivier said.
It was therefore decided that crime fighters would join forces in an operation which included assistance from Sedgefield Police, the Tsitsikamma dog unit, Plett Security Tactical Response Unit (PSTRU) and the All Sound tactical squad.
"During the five-hour operation both PSTRU and Knysna Safety and Security Initiative (KSSI) drones were used to assist ground forces, sweeping the thick bush to identify and pinpoint possible locations and escape routes."
The efforts paid off when one suspect was found and arrested.
"This might be seen as a small step, but most certainly every arrest made is a step in the right direction," said Olivier.
