KNYSNA NEWS - There is joy and jubilation in Zimbabwe since president Robert Mugabe stepped down, but also across the world.
Knysna-Plett Herald journalist, Nwabisa Pondoyi asked local Zimbabweans about their feelings, just before Mugabe actually resigned.
See the photos below and read the comments by those interviewed.
Miriam Nyemba: "I am ecstatic and I am sure I speak for all Zimbabweans when I say this, I am 100% behind what the soldiers are doing. This is the beginning and so many truths will come to light after this. This is the single most amazing feeling ever. We didn't leave Zimbabwe because we wanted to or because we wanted to steal people's jobs, we left because we didn't feel safe in our own country and sought a safe haven – we left because we were desperate to live.
Canaan Rwizi: "As a Christian I'd like to say it is God who appoints the kings and presidents of the countries, therefore, when he wants to remove them, he will do so according to his will. Let us put our faith in the Lord, he is the one to decide."
Gift Dube: "I am not into politics, so I don't really have much to say on the matter."
Farai Kondowe: "My heart is overjoyed. The soldiers managed to do what the UN failed to do and something we even thought was impossible to do and now things are finally going to fall into place. When everything is settled I'll definitely go home in a flash – home is always best. There's nothing more heartbreaking than working away from your family."
James Gocho: "I am so excited, I've been waiting for this day all my life. With Robert Mugabe's falling we'll finally have a democratic country, companies will reopen, there will be schools, hospitals and life in our country. I am very excited."
