NATIONAL NEWS - In a statement earlier today, 29 October, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) said it is increasingly concerned about the misinformation claiming that there will be double payments in social grants.
This misinformation has gone viral on online communication platforms.
Sassa categorically stated that this is not true and urged all its beneficiaries and the general public not to entertain this information, as there has been no announcement of social grants double payment by Sassa or government.
Sassa appealed to the public to be wary and cautious about the information they share on social media, as it directly and adversely affects millions of vulnerable beneficiaries.
"We appeal to our beneficiaries to only rely on credible sources of information on our official social media pages", said Paseka Letsatsi, the Sassa national spokesperson.
"Before anyone can share any information pertaining to social grants, they must first verify its authenticity to avoid disseminating false information that may cause anxiety and stress to our beneficiaries."
If you are in doubt, please call their toll free number, 0800 60 10 11, send an email to GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za, or engage Sassa on its social media pages.
