KNYSNA NEWS - Three suspects were arrested by members of the Knysna Police on charges of housebreaking and theft over the past weekend, October 8 - 10.
"These arrests couldn’t have been possible without the commitment and good cooperation by the community," said Constable Chris Spies, vommunication officer, Knysna SAPS.
A 27-year-old suspect was arrested following a burglary at Templeman Drive, Knysna on Friday, October 8 around 12:00.
It was alleged that the suspect forced open a window at the house, entered and stole property with an estimated value of R19 000. The stolen goods included a laptop, a Play Station, clothing, jewellery and cigarettes.
The suspect had left the scene but was later seen by SAPS members on patrol near Rio Drive. On seeing the SAPS members approaching, the suspect fled into the bushes. A chase ensued and the suspect was arrested and stolen items recovered.
The suspect appeared in the Knysna Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 11 and the case was postponed until October 26 for a formal bail application. The suspect remains in custody.
The following day, October 9, Knysna Police arrested two suspects aged 23 and 24 in connection with housebreaking and theft that occurred at Tide Street, Knysna around 08:30.
The suspects gained entrance through a window and subsequently fled the scene "when members of the public saw what they were doing," explained Constable Spies.
He continued: "Members on patrol also saw the suspects next to the Knysna Lagoon near Costa Sarda and gave chase." Both suspects were found in the nearby bushes, where one of the suspects tried to stab the arresting officer with a sharp object. The officer used the necessary force and arrested him. Police also confiscated a screwdriver at the scene.
The suspects appeared in the Knysna Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 11 and the case was postponed until October 19 for a formal bail application. The suspects were remanded in custody.
