PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A German tourist was seriously injured in Main Street, Plettenberg Bay last night, 11 February, when she was knocked down by a vehicle.
The elderly woman and her husband returned to their vehicle after dining out at the Nineteen89 restaurant when the accident happened at about 20:00.
She suffered head - and leg injuries.
The voluntary community group, First Responders, which relies heavily on public donations were first on the scene and assessed the situation.
The Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) said in a statement, that ambulance services were notified soon after the accident happened.
First Responder volunteers, in their private vehicles, arrived on the scene within four minutes.
A First Responder volunteer said he made a quick assessment at the scene and determined that the passengers in the vehicle were unharmed.
“ I then focused on stabilising the patient. I received notice that Med-Life ambulance services were confirmed and that they were en route. A quick survey was performed, and I noticed that the female was suffering from trauma to her head and injury to her right leg.”
“The pedestrian patient was handed into the care of Med-Life ambulance services and the first Responder volunteers assisted.
“The patient was stabilised, and thereafter loaded into the ambulance to be transported to Plett Medi Clinic, “ added the First Responder volunteer.
