KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality in partnership with the Department of Energy will soon commence with the installation of new Light Emitting Diode (LED) street lights. The work will be rolled out in phases over a three year period in the Knysna CBD, Hornlee, Northern areas and Sedgefield.
The R6 million project was made possible by the Department of Energy, by providing Knysna Municipality with a conditional grant in respect of the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management Programme.

“We ask motorists and pedestrians to be patient, vigilant and cautious during the installation”, concluded Councillor Davis.
Benefits of LED lights include; depreciating at a much slower rate than other alternatives, are light-emitting diodes, as a result they do not have filaments or burn out quickly (they have incredibly long lives), no toxic chemicals like mercury, reduced maintenance costs, do not produce a lot of heat and consume little energy.
