KNYSNA NEWS - The EFF in Knysna held a peaceful picketing outside the police station on Monday, joining hundreds of EFF members in the country to show their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and victims of police brutality in South Africa.
Speaking to Knysna-Plett Herald, EFF Southern Cape regional chairperson Diswayne Maarman said, picketing was not only done in Garden Route towns but across the country.
"The one in Knysna was convened by our regional member, Neil Louw. About 45 people took part in the picketing, all social distancing and wearing of masks were done and practised. We were permitted only 50 people maximum who could participate," he said.
"The Black Lives Matter is not only about the abuse suffered by black people at the hands of the police but more about the treatment we as black people receive in South Africa under the ANC government and their law enforcement agencies in terms of inequality and a justice system that many a times fails us," Maarman said.
EFF regional spokesperson Ras Hein Scheepers said their party members picketed at police stations in George, Knysna, Bitou and Oudtshoorn to call for an end to white supremacy racism and police brutality.
"During the lockdown we have seen the murders of South Africans by the SA National Defence Force and the police in their operations to enforce lockdown and other regulations. Those who have died in South Africa include Khosa, Miggels and many other people who I did not mention," he said.
