Update
KNYSNA NEWS - An ongoing case involving three local suspects in connection with dogfighting has yet again been postponed by the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 6 March.
Sidina Mbhinqo (41), Jason Smit (19) and Tolani Honono (20) were caught and arrested for fighting dogs in White Location on 10 January.
The three men have since been released on bail of R500 each.
Since the suspects' first court appearance on 11 January, the case has had three postponements.
After their brief appearance in court this week, the case was deferred to 5 June for them to consult with their Legal Aid representative.
The trio from Flenters, White Location were charged on four counts of cruelty to animals, in terms of the Animal Protection Act.
All four dogs have since died following the incident.
The suspects' bail conditions are that they are not allowed to instigate dogfights or go near animals.
Kaws general manager Annelien Kitley commented, "I really hope they will be prosecuted for this, we need to fight for our animals and I hope the justice system will not fail us in this regard.
"We will be following the case and attending whenever we can."
