SEDGEFIELD NEWS FLASH - Reports of disgruntled car guards damaging vehicles and property within Sedgefield's town centre, had residents concerned about their safety.
It was alleged that since Pick n Pay Sedgefield had employed paid security guards to ensure the safety of their shoppers, effectively removing the hordes of car guards from their parking area, the car-guards had "gone on the rampage".
Reports of one motorist suffering R15 000 damage to his vehicle quickly circulated through the village.
This motorist vehemently denied that the car-guards had caused the damage stating: "My car was damaged, but the damage was not caused by car guards."
Knysna municipal manager Grant Easton explained: "The incident did not occur at the Pick n Pay parking area but at Kingfisher Drive opposite the Green Valley grocer. It is alleged that it was a group of individuals antagonising store goers for money and when customers refused to give in, tempers flared and vehicles were damaged as a result. We condemn such behaviour in the strongest possible terms and we encourage residents to report reckless and dangerous behaviour to their nearest police station."
