KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna-born fashion designer Mveleli Bambiso is making his contribution towards the fight against rising cases and the spread of the coronavirus.
Since the 21-day lockdown started, Bambiso has been making stylish masks and selling them from his home while giving out a pair of surgical gloves free for each purchase.
The fashionista from White Location is also the founder and head fashion designer at M Creations, a clothing brand that was established in 2015.
"So normally before I make any garment, I play with the ideas in my head. I did research on the masks in terms of health and how we can make this whole virus pandemic fashionable and easy to obey. Because once something becomes trendy everyone becomes easy to control or get to work together. I wanted to help with something and I then decided to make masks as part of the needed prevention for the virus" he said.
"I've always been into business and accounting, that's been my direction all my life growing up," Mveleli said, adding that growing up in a family with a fashion pipeline has certainly influenced his love for fashion.
The pandemic and the negative effects it has had on his business has caused him to lose out on several bookings for the month of April, and all the gigs he was invited to were also cancelled. "I had to make a few refunds but now with the mask project, it slightly alleviated things for business. For now I have hope that the current mask project we are running will prevent us from hitting rock bottom."
