As part of the visit, the MPPs supported the local tourism industry by taking a ride on a high speed adventure boat.
This specific smaller tourism business was chosen to demonstrate just how vital small private enterprises are within the tourism industry and the local economy.
Tourism businesses like this, and many others across the province, form an important part of the Western Cape economy. The tourism industry is one of the key economic areas in the Western Cape, bringing it about 10.1% of provincial GDP.
Small business and tourism provide key opportunities for economic development and job creation, creating the backbone of what our economy really needs. Minister Alan Winde’s aim for the Western Cape Tourism industry is to grow its contribution to the GDP from 10% to 15% in 2015.
