KNYSNA NEWS - Despite Knysna Municipality stating that there are 9 cases of Covid-19 in Knysna, the Western Cape Department of Health was unable to confirm this number.
Spokesperson Nadia Ferreira stated that the department and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) does not publish case numbers per sub-district, but rather per district. "We refrain from publishing cases per sub-district because of the process a test has to follow before it can be confirmed," she said.
According to Ferreira, while a case can test positive privately in Knysna, it can still prove to be a false positive when checked by the NICD, as was the case with the very first Covid-19 case in the Free State a few weeks ago.
"We are considering publishing number per sub-district, but at this point those numbers can't be confirmed," Ferreira said. "There are however 18 cases in the Garden Route as of yesterday evening, and these are the only concrete numbers we can confirm."
