KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Magistrate's court was packed today as angry protesters demanded that the man accused of killing Marcia Kleinbooi (45) over the weekend, be denied bail.
According to Knysna Police, Kleinbooi was murdered in her house in Concordia on Sunday.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, sergeant Chris Spies said Gevandre Jantjies (30) was arrested and charged with the murder of Kleinbooi following an investigation which showed that the two had an argument.
"He stabbed her with a knife and she sustained a stab wound to the neck and died on the scene," said Spies.
The gallery was packed today, forcing some of the protesters to stand outside. As court was in session, the people were advised not to make a noise, but the door was kept open to allow them to hear and see what was happening in court.
Knysna United chair Ralph Stander said they came to the court to show their support for the victim and her family.
"As men we need to stand up and say not in our name. It can't be that the women and children that we are supposed to protect, we are the ones killing them," he said.
He said they want the court not to grant the accused bail as he will endanger the public.
The case was postponed to 18 March for a formal bail application.
