KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS – Bucking the trend of decreasing numbers in the past two weeks, the number of active cases has increased in both Knysna and Bitou in the past week.
It should be noted that the Department of Health updated its Covid-19 statistics dashboard this week. With this update came the allocation and reallocation of cases to Knysna and Bitou.
This means there are extremely high increases in new cases this week, but the vast majority of these are recoveries.
As at Tuesday 11 May, Knysna had recorded a total of 4 903 cases of Covid-19, of which 4 722 have recovered, 159 have died, and 22 are active cases. This indicates 10 additional active cases in the seven days between 4 and 11 May, the opposite of the drop seen between 27 April and 4 May.
These numbers show 73 new cases in Knysna, however 63 of these were allocated as recoveries.
The number of deaths remains the same.
In Bitou, as at Tuesday, 2 802 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 2 684 having recovered, 99 having died, and 19 being active cases. This shows eight additional active cases between 4 and 11 May, also a departure from the drop seen the week before.
As with Knysna, the number of new cases is high at 37, but 30 have been allocated as recoveries.
Last week's death tally was 100, meaning one death was also reallocated elsewhere as the tally is now 99.
