KNYSNA NEWS - Combined operations between the Southern Cape Police in Knysna and the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit have led to the arrest of 11 people for different offences over the weekend.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies said in an effort to curb serious and violent crimes over the weekend, police were strategically deployed to crime hotspots to close down illicit liquor and drug outlets.
A number of suspects were arrested and drugs as well as liquor was confiscated.
In Knysna on Saturday, the forces continued with search and seizure operations in crime-ridden areas.
“The operations resulted in the arrest of five suspects for drug-related offences and four for possession of a dangerous weapon,” said Spies. “Police confiscated small amounts of Mandrax tablets and various sharp objects. The suspects, aged between 33 and 46, remain in custody,” he said.
Furthermore, road safety efforts resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 43 and 53 on charges of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor.
“These arrests were effected in Concordia and Pitt streets in Knysna. All arrested persons will make their respective court appearances when charged,” he said.
