ELECTION NEWS - South Africans are going to the polls today (Wednesday 8 May) to vote in the provincial and national election.
The day has been declared a public holiday.
Voting stations open at 07:00 today and will close at 21:00 tonight.
Voters will receive 2 ballot papers. However, if you are voting outside the province in which you initially registered, you will only receive a national ballot and will not be able to cast your provincial vote.
When you arrive at your voting station, you will go through the following steps to cast your vote:
1. Present your valid identity document (green ID book, smart card or temporary ID) to the door controller at the entrance of the voting station. (A driver's licence is not an acceptable proof of ID.)
2. Move on to the table where you can check that you are on the voters' roll.
3. Get your ballot papers. Make sure the back of both papers are stamped.
4. Have your identification document stamped.
5. Find an empty voting booth and make your X.
6. Cast your vote by inserting the ballot papers in the available boxes.
The following is not allowed at a voting station:
- Interrupting the work of the voting station staff.
- Weapons of any kind.
- Campaigning for your political party or candidates within the boundaries of the voting station.
- Taking a photo of the marked ballot papers.
- Taking a selfie in the voting booth or station.
Be sure you make your mark today!
