PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Sergeant Christopher Spies, the Southern Cape police spokesperson, said police operations to curb the influx of illicit drugs into the Western Cape "once again yielded excellent results", when drugs with an estimated street value of R900 000 were confiscated on the N2 near the entrance to Plettenberg Bay.
He said on Tuesday 17 September, police, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, set up a roadblock near the Tsitsikamma Toll Gate.
Officers attached to the Tsitsikamma K9 unit pulled over a vehicle, and upon searching it, allegedly found a concealed consignment of drugs.
The police confiscated 1,5 kilograms of cocaine, and arrested the driver of the vehicle.
The 56-year-old suspect remained in police custody, and was expected to make his first court appearance in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 19 September, facing a charge of dealing in drugs.
The Western Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, commended the officers for their efforts to eradicate drug trafficking.
