PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Thanks to cooperation between various crime fighters in Plettenberg Bay, a visitor's vehicle was recovered after it had been stolen during a house theft.
Lisa Nagel of Plett.Watch, a local neighbourhood watch group, said Fidelity ADT response officers noticed people getting out of an "upmarket" vehicle in Bossiesgif on Sunday 21 November. The group of men was allegedly armed with pangas and also carried bags of goods.
"The officers contacted police who checked the registration, which came back to someone close to Cape Town. The owner was contacted and said her son and friends were on holiday in Plett, staying at a friend's holiday house. She contacted the owner of the house, who contacted Fidelity ADT and asked that they check the house, which was duly done and found to have been burgled and ransacked," Nagel said.
It appears that the vehicle keys were in the house, which "assisted the criminals in an easy getaway". "The vehicle was tracked and shortly thereafter found. The occupants fled the scene."
Nagel said the vehicle was taken to local police for forensic investigation.
"Please report any suspicious movement, sounds or vehicles that seem out of place. Be extra vigilant of strangers in your area. Do not leave vehicle keys around that may assist criminals in getting away from your property after a crime has been committed," Nagel warned.
Police confirmed the incident.
