KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - The number of active Covid-19 cases in Knysna and Bitou has spiked this week, with Knysna almost doubling last week's number while Bitou did in fact double the number of active cases it had last week.
Registrations to receive the Covid-19 VACCINE in the Western Cape continue to edge ever closer to the three-million mark.
As at Tuesday 3 May the Western Cape has seen 2 993 495 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 53,33% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 260 858 people have registered for the vaccine, 52,69% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 36 878 vaccine registrations, which is 64,24% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 686 vaccine registrations, 53,38% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 3 May, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 907 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 573 have recovered, 291 have died, and 43 are active cases.
The number of new cases in the past week, 23, represents a sharp increase of 187,5% (+15) from the week before. It is the biggest percentage increase in new cases that Knysna has seen this year.
The active cases also increased significantly this week, rising by 79,17% (+19) - this is the largest rise in active cases in Knysna in 2022.

The recovery rate has fallen, down to 96,63% (96,81% last week). The deaths have remained the same.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 783 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 598 having recovered, 143 having died, and 42 being active cases.
This shows 26 new cases recorded between 25 April and 3 May, an increase of 73,33% (+11). It is Bitou's second-largest weekly rise in new cases this year.
The active cases have climbed by 100% (+21) this week - it is the highest percentage increase in active cases that Bitou has seen this year.
The recovery rate decreased and is now 96,80% (97,15% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have not increased for the eighth week in a row - the longest such streak seen this year.
