KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS – For the seventh week in a row, the number of active cases of Covid-19 in Knysna and Bitou has decreased, while the latter has a higher number than Knysna for only the sixth time this year.
As at Tuesday 5 July the Western Cape has seen 3 032 050 registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, 54,02% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 264 330 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,39% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 316 vaccine registrations, which is 65% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 23 295 vaccine registrations, 54,82% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 5 July, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 142 cases of Covid- 19, of which 9 845 have recovered, 293 have died, and four are active cases. There was a total of nine new cases this week. We are unable to draw a conclusion on the percentage this week as there was a reallocation of cases last week.
The active cases decreased this week though, falling by 50% (-4), the seventh consecutive decrease in active cases in Knysna.

When the number of new cases exceeds the number of active cases, it means that the number of new recoveries exceeds the number of new cases or there has been recent reallocations within the system.
The recovery rate has risen, up to 97,07% (97,03% last week). The deaths have remained the same for the fifth week in a row.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 989 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 838 having recovered, 143 having died, and eight being active cases. This shows three new cases recorded between 28 June and 5 July, a decrease of 25% (-1).
The active cases have fallen by 11,11% (-6) this week, the seventh consecutive drop in active cases. The recovery rate increased and is now 97,48% (97,46% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,4%.
The deaths have not increased for the 17th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in Bitou during the pandemic.
