KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - Despite decreases in active cases in both Knysna and Bitou, the number of new cases in Bitou doubled this week in comparison to last week.
As at Monday 13 June the Western Cape has seen 3 022 475 registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, 53,85% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 263 191 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,16% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 108 vaccine registrations, which is 64,64% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 874 vaccine registrations, 53,83% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 14 June, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 120 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 789 have recovered, 293 have died and 38 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 15, is a 37,5% decrease (-9) from the week before.
The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 17,39% (-8), the fourth consecutive decrease after four weeks of increases.
The recovery rate has risen to 96,73% (96,65% last week). The deaths have remained the same for the second week in a row. In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 972 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 804 having recovered, 143 having died and 25 being active cases. This is 21 new cases recorded between 7 and 14 June, a sharp increase of 110%% (+11).

The active cases have however fallen by 39,02% (-16) this week, the fourth consecutive drop in active cases. When the new cases increase but the active cases decrease, it means that the number of new recoveries (37 this week) exceeds the number of new cases.
The recovery rate increased and is now 97,19% (96,91% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,4%. The deaths have not increased for the 14th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in Bitou during the pandemic.
