KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - After a recent streak of increases in active cases in Knysna and Bitou, both sub-districts saw decreases in the past two weeks.
Registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine are climbing. As at Monday 30 May the Western Cape had 3 013 534 registrations for the vaccine, 53,69% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 262 391 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,00% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 043 vaccine registrations, which is 64,53% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 811 vaccine registrations, 53,68% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 31 May, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 081 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 717 have recovered, 293 have died, and 71 are active cases.
The number of new cases in the past week, 26, is a significant decrease of 50% (-26) in new cases from the week before.

The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 18,39% (-16), the second consecutive decrease after four weeks of increases.
The recovery rate has risen to 96,39% (96,23% last week). The deaths have increased for the first time in three weeks.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 941 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 735 having recovered, 143 having died, and 63 being active cases. This shows 34 new cases recorded between 24 and 31 May, an increase of 13,33% (+4).
The active cases have fallen by 16% (-12) this week. When the new cases increase but the active cases decrease, it means that the number of new recoveries (46 this week) exceeds the number of new cases.
The recovery rate increased and is now 96,53% (96,31% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have not increased for the 12th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in Bitou during the pandemic.
