KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - After an increase in new cases last week, Bitou's numbers have dropped this week along with the figures in Knysna.
As at Monday 20 June the Western Cape province has seen 3 025 807 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 53,91% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 263 437 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,21% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 137 vaccine registrations, which is 64,69% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 884 vaccine registrations, 53,85% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 21 June, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 134 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 821 have recovered, 293 have died, and 20 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 14, represents a small decrease of 6,67% (-1) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 47,37% (-18), the fifth consecutive decrease after a previous four weeks of increases. The recovery rate has risen, up to 96,91% (96,73% last week). The deaths have remained the same for the third week in a row.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 982 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 824 having recovered, 143 having died, and 15 being active cases. This shows 10 new cases recorded between 14 and 21 June, a decrease of 52,38% (-11).

The active cases have fallen by 40% (-10) this week, the fifth consecutive drop in active cases. The recovery rate increased and is now 97,36% (97,19% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,4%. The deaths have not increased for the 15th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in Bitou during the pandemic.
