KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – After Bitou showed no active cases last week, Knysna has recorded its lowest figures since April 2020, marking a 27-month low for Covid-19 in Knysna.
The number of registrations to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in the Western Cape stood at 3 037 722 on Tuesday 26 July, 54,12% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 264 828 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,49% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 480 vaccine registrations, which is 65,29% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 23 312 vaccine registrations, 54,86% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 26 July, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 142 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 847 have recovered, 294 have died, and one is an active case. There are no new cases in Knysna this week; the first time since 24 April 2020 that the total cases have remained the same.
The active cases have decreased by three this week to one active case - this is the lowest number since Knysna had zero active cases on 24 April 2020. The recovery rate has risen to 97,09% (97,06%). The deaths have stayed the same.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 993 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 848 having recovered, 143 having died, and two active cases. Bitou recorded five new cases this week, four up from the one that was recorded last week.
The active cases stand on two in Bitou, slightly up from last week's zero active cases. The recovery rate decreased and is now 97,58% (97,61% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,4%.
The deaths have not increased for the 20th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in either Bitou or Knysna during the pandemic.
