KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - Both Knysna and Bitou this week saw further decreases in the number of active cases.
It is the third consecutive week that the statistics has decreased.
As at Monday 6 June the Western Cape has seen 3 018 076 registrations for the Covid-19 vaccine, 53,77% of the eligible population.
In the Garden Route a total of 262 882 people have registered for the vaccine, 53,10% of the eligible population.
In Knysna there has been a total of 37 071 vaccine registrations, which is 64,57% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 831 vaccine registrations, 53,73% of the eligible population.
As at Tuesday 7 June, Knysna had recorded a total of 10 105 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 766 have recovered, 293 have died, and 46 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 24, represents a slight decrease of 7,69% (-2) in new cases from the week before.
The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 35,21% (-25) - the third consecutive decrease after four weeks of increases. The recovery rate has risen to 96,65% (96,39% last week). The deaths have remained the same after last week's increase.
In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 951 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 767 having recovered, 143 having died, and 41 being active cases. This shows 10 new cases recorded between 31 May and 7 June, a decrease of 70,59% (-24).

The active cases have fallen by 34,92% (-22) this week, the third consecutive drop in active cases. The recovery rate increased and is now 96,91% (96,53% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,4%. The deaths have not increased for the 13th week in a row - the longest such streak seen in Bitou during the pandemic.
