BUSINESS NEWS - One of very few South African Landscapers Institute (SALI) registered landscaping businesses in the Garden Route, GvH Landscapes, has won numerous awards over its 16 years of operation.
Most recently, the company bagged an impressive haul of nine awards and trophies at the 2022 SALI Awards.
The award haul included the four top trophies any landscaper can win at the SALI Awards - the Sakata MayFord Seeds Trophy for the best use of colour in the landscape; the Atlantic Fertilisers Trophy for best landscape design and construction; the Rand Water Water Wise Trophy for the best water wise landscape; and the most important of all - the SALI Shield of Excellence Award for outstanding landscaping, making GvH Landscapes officially the best landscaping business in SA.
These were all won for a single garden that GvH Landscapes designed and built in Eastford in Knysna. The best landscape colourist in the country, business founder and co-owner Graham von Hoesslin, has been working hard over the past 16 years to win the trophy for best landscape design and construction.
He has won the trophy for best use of colour on numerous occasions, but not until this year was named the best in landscape design and construction. While the company's award-winning garden lies in Knysna, the bulk of its clientele fall within the confines of Plettenberg Bay with a total of 85 gardens that they maintain on a regular basis between the two towns.
Based on a smallholding in Harkerville, GvH Landscapes is perfectly located to service both towns and their landscaping needs with two different maintenance teams, one dedicated to each town.
Officially founded in 2006 by Von Hoesslin and his father, over the years GvH Landscapes has worked on hundreds of gardens and a good number of large landscape projects - one of which is the stunning gardens at the Sky Villa Boutique Hotel in Plett.
Most of these projects have been up and down the Garden Route, but some have also been done in the Cape Winelands.
The maintenance teams are responsible for the upkeep of the numerous gardens on their roster, and by no means is their maintenance simple - they have various team members dedicated to achieving ultimate perfection by paying attention to the smallest of details in every garden.
With a focus on keeping matters local, the majority of the business' plants are sourced from local nurseries and wholesalers.
