KNYSNA NEWS - Local gospel singer Noluthando Mfazwe has released her latest album titled Isandla sika Jehova.
The artist, who has been singing all her life, looks after children at Lukhanyiso Safe House during the day and pursues her singing career every minute she gets in her free time.
Her first single, Ndiyakwazi (I Know You), was inspired by a bible scripture, Jeremiah 1:5.
Singing from experience
“My music is not only for Christians but for everyday people. Ndiyakwazi talks about low-self-esteem, it talks to people who were told they would never amount to anything. It talks to children who do not have the latest gadgets at school or even school uniform and the basics.
"I can speak about all these things because I have lived through them and experienced them at a very tender age when I lost both my parents.”
Great losses
She says that by the age of 16 she had already suffered the two great losses of her parents, four years apart. “One never really gets over the loss of a parent and just as I was making sense of life without my parents, I lost my grandmother who was looking after me, so you see, when I talk about not having anything or anyone, I know exactly what I am talking about.”
Mfazwe says her music is all about restoring hope and showing people that it is possible to rise above your circumstances.
The album consists of 10 songs and they are will be available at Knysna and Plettenberg Bay taxi ranks. “Taxi ranks are easily accessible,” she explains.
She also has four radio interviews lined up in Cape Town with Khayelitsha FM, Zibonele FM, Disa FM and Elgone FM.
Music as a safe haven
The 35-year-old says her biggest challenge was finding the people who understand that making music, for her, is not just about singing. “My music is about encouraging people, giving them a safe haven, an escape if you need it. It’s also about introducing people to God. I tried him at a very young age as an orphan and my life changed completely.”
The official launch date is yet to be confirmed.
'Making magic'
Producer Patrick Makosa, who has worked with several local artists including Arab, says Mfazwe’s energy is contagious. “I worked with her before and when the opportunity presented itself again, Wanda Falithenjwa, the coproducer and I knew she was going to make magic – you can’t listen to her music and remain the same, her music transforms you and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it.”
