KNYSNA ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Down the Rabbit Hole, an exhibition by Carol (spelt with one "l'' and no relation to the Alice in Wonderland author despite the glaring thematic coincidence) Cauldwell, is on display at the Knysna Fine Art gallery for all lovers of both the figurative and the fantastical.
Art cognoscente attended the opening night last week Thursday 11 October to witness Cauldwell’s unique blend of pathos and humour.
Her detailed work depicting animals and people form a grand narrative that transcends divisions – from the everyday businessman battling mundanity or African woman with baby in hand, to a rabbit-band tuning up for a jumping jive party or young hares in a romantic embrace.
Inspired by her father’s love of everything creative, Cauldwell says she is happiest when she has clay on her hands and that if attendees were to take anything from her exhibition it would be the tenet “Life is a party, laugh a little, be happy”. One invitee, Jolene Biesenbach, described the exhibition as mind-boggling,
“How she captures raw emotions is a thing of beauty. The two rabbits are so in love –him more than her of course,'' she giggled.
The exhibition runs until 20 November but a selection of Cauldwell's works will still be available at the gallery.
