PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The moves of Plett's new dance sensation Asonge Soarrah Mbali (20) have catapulted her into the limelight after she was spotted by amapiano sensation Pushkin.
Mbali was told on a local TV show by Pushkin, a kwaito and amapiano artist from Soweto, that she will feature in his next music video.
This follows Mbali's entry into a dance challenge receiving more than 1,2 million views on TikTok in October.
She was invited to appear on local TV show, where she was told the great news. "Everything happened so quickly. The date for the video shoot is not out yet," said Mbali.
She uploaded her video, taken on her cellphone, in the challenge for fun and it went viral on her social media pages with many views on TikTok.
"The song I enjoyed, and the sound. It spoke about amaZulu and I love the Zulu culture. I am very excited," she said, adding that she choreographed her own moves and it took about two minutes to make the dance.
Mbali said her future probably does not lie in the music industry, but in the entertainment industry,
"Music to me is natural talent. Growing up I've always danced many styles - ballroom dancing, umxhentso, bhenga and now amapiano.
"I don't currently have any other projects in mind, however I am hoping on working with other artists and getting more gigs. I would love to be able to choreograph for people or even join people in their music videos or be a backup performer," she said.
"I'm very happy about how things are going." She has not yet been told what will be expected of her in her upcoming video quest.
Mbali matriculated at Wittedrift High School and is now a first year education student at the University of the Western Cape.
