Knysna
After the story of an eviction of a family from municipal housing caused an outcry on Facebook, the harsh reality of a dearth of affordable housing in Knysna has come under the spotlight again. The bottom line is that when a family was recently evicted from their Curlew Court municipal housing flat after living there for 15 years, the municipality was acting well within its rights. The tenant, Charlie Luiters, alleged that he was illegally evicted by the Knysna municipality on November 4, but in terms of income criteria needed to reside in municipal housing, he was in fact legally evicted and warned timeously of the pending eviction.
