GEORGE NEWS - The Young Elephants U11 girls' indoor hockey team made history earlier this month by becoming the first team from the club to compete at the PSI Junior Nationals Indoor Hockey Tournament in Cape Town, which took place from 3 to 5 July, where they claimed the Shield gold medal and trophy.
Eight of the 10 players were from George and the remaining two from Oudtshoorn. The young side travelled to Cape Town, eager to test themselves against teams from around the country.
Coached by Anthony Winson, the team impressed with their determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their initial objective was to gain valuable experience, but they exceeded expectations by winning the Shield Competition and each returning home with individual gold medals.

Adding to the team's success, Jaimee Hobson was named the Player of the Shield Tournament in recognition of her outstanding performances.

Following their success at junior level, the attention now turns to the senior nationals, which will take place in Cape Town during the December school holidays.
