KNYSNA NEWS - Local netball clubs Knysna Jaguars and Knysna Loeries recently took part in the second round of the regional 2022 Twizza Netball Club Championships.
The competition was started in 2021 through a partnership between Netball South Africa and SA beverage company Twizza to help grow club netball around the country, with the inaugural edition taking place between May and September.
Participating clubs and players from around SA start their Twizza journeys at the district level, where all the clubs in a given district play their local tournaments to determine who progresses to the provincial level.
The clubs who triumph at the provincial level take on the best of the best at a national level to determine the winner of the trophy.
This year, Eden Netball organised its first round of fixtures for both men's and women's sections of the championships in late March and early April, a little earlier than last year.
The second round was played in Mossel Bay on 9 April.
"The reason for this wonderful tournament that our players and participants really enjoy is to garner mass participation and to #bringnetballtothepeople," said René Booysen, chairperson of Eden Netball, during the second round.
"Both the runners-up and the winners at our district level will take part in the provincial tournament in Paarl later this year."
Knysna Jaguars' men's team played two games, winning one and losing one.
The Knysna Loeries women's team earned two victories and one defeat from their three matches.
It is not clear just yet if these Knysna outfits have progressed to the district competition.
