GEORGE NEWS - Anya du Plessis, a Grade 11 learner of York High, took part in the CAC Track African Continental Championships as member of the South African Women's team in Nigeria during the July holidays.
She took part in five races (three individual races and two team races) and brought back five gold medals.
Anya began participating in mountain biking races at the age of 12, and she has been competing in track racing for only the last eight months.
She trains with Marike Vreken of Absolute Motion in Knysna. Biokineticist Anine van der Westhuizen of EMS & Rehabilitation is assisting Anya to recover from an injury and to prepare her for a race later this year in Mauritius.
