KNYSNA NEWS - Fourteen year-old Concordia resident Anuchia Kiewiets has been a star on the netball court for as long as she can remember, and this year earned Western Cape colours for the second time.
Anuchia started her netball career while still at Concordia Primary School, and earning her first provincial colours in 2017 in the U12 age group.
She wasn't able to repeat her provincial success the following year but still managed to make her family and friends proud by earning district colours after being selected for the 2018 U13 Eden District team.
After graduating from Concordia Primary, Anuchia moved on to Concordia High School as a scholar – but she plays her netball for the Knysna High School U14 team.
She has had another stellar year on the netball court, with her strong performances for the Knysna High School team and at the provincial trials earning herself a second selection to a provincial team, this time for the 2019 U14 Western Cape netball team.
However, when she was selected there was no guarantee that she would attend the provincial week as those ventures can often get rather pricey, according to her mother, Elizabeth Kiewiets. "We couldn't afford to send her ourselves, but luckily we received sponsorship forms and letters that helped us raise money," Kiewiets said.
The grateful mother highlighted one person and her partner in particular, Elouise Hamman and Niko Pienaar, who played a big role in securing the funds for Anuchia's trip to the provincial tournament. "Without her help, we would've never been able to send Anuchia."
