One of the oldest Sunshine Tour tournaments, which celebrates its 20th anniversary, was given a R500 000 cash boost by Dimension Data executive chairman Jeremy Ord.
The injection made it the richest tournament on the Sunshine Tour outside the events co-sanctioned by the European Tour.
"We're thrilled to have travelled this road with the Sunshine Tour," said Ord in a statement.
"The tournament forms an important part of our relationships with many people who are part of our business, and it has become an event to which businessmen and golf professionals alike look forward."
Ord said the tournament had been a mainstay in the country and needed to be celebrated.
"By increasing the prize money on offer, we believe we are demonstrating our faith in the future of professional golf in South Africa as well as expressing gratitude for a 20-year journey."
