The event was held to thank the club's women team for their hard work, commitment and passion and love for the game of football. The players and their parents were invited to attend the event, as the management encourages and welcomes the parents' involvement in the budding sporting careers of the team members.
"The event was made possible by support and contributions from the players and parents, as well as Riaan Booysen from Sintec that sponsored the snacks and drinks," explains Shamley Titus, general secretary of the club.
Titus applauded Booysen on behalf of the club as he had also sponsored them on previous occasions. "The club is incredibly grateful for support like this because it helps us to build the team, which in turn improves the players and enables them to compete at a higher level."
The club handed him a certificate as well as a framed photograph of the team as a token of their appreciation.
All the ladies received a certificate for their involvement with the club. The following players received a second certificate as well as trophy for their outstanding performances on and off the field: Most Disciplined Player of the Season - July-Ann Saptou, Most Improved Player - Jaqlene Marais, Best Goalkeeper - Nicoline Robertson, Most Committed Player - Shamilla Charles, Top Goal-Scorer - Kayleen Messeur, Player of the Season - Logan Moos, Player Showing Leadership - Ronell Donson.
The following individuals also received certificates for supporting the club: Sam Roelf, Frances Roelf and Renaldo Roelf.
Southern Stars United FC would like to thank all the players for their commitment to the club, for the effort that they have put in and for being placed second in the ABSA Women’s League, even though they were newcomers to the league.
"We believe this proves that we have talented young female players in Knysna, but they need our support and motivation!" said Titus.
Southern Stars United FC calls on the local community to donate football equipment, and/or sponsorship in any way possible. The ladies team plays games throughout the Eden region and funding for transportation is needed to allow the team to honour its fixtures in the following towns: Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn and Hessequa (Riversdal).
